Announcement of the cancellation of the "Tour de Hokkaido 2020"
due to the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic

In consideration of current Covid-19 pandemic, after the consultation with the Tour de Hokkaido Management Committee organized on May 12, we, The Tour de Hokkaido Association have made a difficult decision to cancel “Tour de Hokkaido 2020” scheduled to be held from October 9 to October 11, 2020.
“The Citizen Race” scheduled on June 21, 2020 will also be cancelled. 
We would like to deeply thank all those concerned including the local authorities and relevant organizations for continuous support and cooperation for our event as well as we appreciate your understanding under these circumstances.
Finally, we sincerely hope that Covid-19 pandemic will come to an end as soon as possible while trying our best to improve our 2021 edition.

About TOUR DE HOKKAIDO

The Tour de Hokkaido, initially held in 1987 as the first stage race in Japan, marks the 34th anniversary, and the 24th as the international race registered in the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) this year.

"Stage race" is the most spectacular and popular among cycling races. This event is held as a ME 2.2 race authorized by the UCI, and is one of the greatest cycling races in Japan. Highly evaluated as an event that UCI ranking points are awarded, the race aims to provide an opportunity for Japanese leading riders striving for the world stage, to serve as an arena for training young promising riders and to develop a wide range of personnel involved with cycle road races in Japan.

This event also aims to contribute to the development of tourism and industry, the promotion of culture, the improvement of the quality of life and reinforcement of the health and physical strength of the citizens especially by capitalizing on Hokkaido's natural resources. It also strives to promote cycling sports in general and to popularize the use of bicycles in Japan.
